Polemics Term: Whitewash

The term, “whitewash,” means: to gloss over or cover up (such as vices or crimes) or to exonerate by means of a perfunctory investigation or through biased presentation of data.

Like the term, “Canerize,” which is named after Ergun Caner and means to make something online disappear, “Whitewash” (capital ‘W’) is named after to whom it refers, James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries.

On January 2, 2017, James White normalized as orthodox a wildly heterodoxical false teacher named Dr. Michael Brown. In that infamous episode of the Dividing Line, Michael Brown blasphemed Christ by teaching that temporal physical healing was provided in the atonement due to his prosperity-driven interpretation of Isaiah 53 (to White’s silence), defended the phraseology of Bill Johnson that Jesus was “born again” (to White’s silence) and even revealed that White had told him while he couldn’t preach at the Phoenix Reformed Baptist Church, he would be able to teach at a seminary if White ran one.

In the Elephant Room 3 episode, White lobbed ‘softballs’ at Michael Brown without any attempt whatsoever to thoroughly investigate Brown’s clearly self-contradictory and provenly false theological claims.

“James White really Whitewashed Michael Brown there, didn’t he?”

“Michael Brown has repeatedly Whitewashed Bethel and Hillsong, in spite of the repeated evidence against them.”
